I can't sleep

After multiple plans fell through for tonight (like nearly every night for the last week or so), I decided that I was meant to say home.

As much as I love hanging out at home, crocheting and watching tv... I feel really pathetic. I mean, I love a quiet night in just as much (probably even more) as anyone else but I need to get out of my parents house before I go nuts.

I really miss my apartment and my roommies! I miss living with two other people who were nearly always home and always up for watching a movie and random times of the day, baking something, going for ice cream, sitting on the counters in the kitchen bitching about everything to each other for hours on end, stoop parties in sweatpants, late night Taco Bell/Red Box runs, going to the mall just to walk around, or just napping/reading/studying outside in the grass. I also miss living within walking distance of a few thousand people my age who are also looking for ways to kill time.

For the last few weeks I've had these weird headaches (what I thought were migraines). I had some blood work done earlier this week and I haven't heard anything back yet. Yesterday was my first day without one so I hoped maybe that was the end of them. But now I have one.

So now I'm stuck at home on a Friday night with nothing to do and I can't even sleep because my head won't allow it. Guess I'm watching George Lopez all night.

Summer Goals

I'm sure this list will change a lot over the next few weeks... but as of right now these are my summer goals.

  • read as many books as possible on the Lost Book Club list
  • picnic and read all day in Bishop Park (pictured above)
  • do as much volunteering as possible
  • break in to the Detroit train station before it gets demolished
  • have a (cheesey) scary movie marathon
  • go to New Orleans to volunteer
  • go canoeing in Ann Arbor
  • take a road trip anywhere
  • learn to make frushi
  • go camping
  • finish crocheting my blanket
  • go to Chicago with a lot of people
  • find a new hobby
  • spend as much time with friends as I can before heading back to GR for a year

Bamboo Yarn

If you know anything about me, you already know that I've been on this environmental kick lately.  I've also been super obsessed with crocheting.  Today both of my obsessions merged together.

I am now the proud owner of Bamboo Yarn.

Bamboo is a popular knitting/crocheting choice because of bamboo's rapid rate of growth and its ability to replenish itself.  Green Options says: synthetic yarns are also bad for the earth, since they are made from petroleum. Vegans object to using wool, and, although great for many heirloom projects, are just not as sustainable as some of the newer options. Industrially-produced cotton brings with it a slew of environmental problems, including water and soil pollution.

Reasons To Use Bamboo Yarn:
  • eco-friendly
  • soft, silky texture (compared to silk or cashmere)
  • perfect for light garments
  • naturally antibacterial
  • naturally non-allergenic

Other "Green" Yarns:
  • organic cotton
  • soy yarn
  • corn yarn
  • shirmp and crab shell fiber yarn
  • hemp yarn
  • soy silk fiber (created from byproducts of tofu production)
